Master Gorino was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on June 10th, 1956. When he was 10 years old his brother Henry began studying Judo. Master Gorino also wanted to study but was prohibited by financial contraints. He then concentrated on his schooling and received a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. Master Gorino pursued a career as a professional musician in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. All this while Master Gorino never lost the desire to study a martial art. While traveling with a particular band, one of the lighting technicians who was a Black Belt introduced Master Gorino to Karate. They began to train together daily. When he returned to Buffalo Master Gorino continued his Karate training. During training his instructor would constantly talk about how well the Tae Kwon-Do "guys" could kick. Unfortunately, the Karate school closed but this gave Master Gorino the opportunity to seek out a Tae Kwon-Do Master. While looking for a Tae Kwon-Do Master, Master Gorino kept busy by entering graduate school and receiving his Master's degree in Music, Education, and Counseling. After seeking out a Master he decided upon Master Chung Soo Kim. Master Kim trained his students in the World Tae Kwon-Do Federation style and under those auspices Master Gorino achieved the rank of 1st Dan. Gorino wanted to further his studies of Tae Kwon-Do and researched more instructors; this is when he heard that Robert Summers had just opened a school in the area. At this time, Summers was the defending world champion. Gorino watched a few of his classes and knew instantly that it was the school for him. Summers and Gorino began training together under the watchful eye of Master Park Jong Soo and the International Tae Kwon-Do Federation. Soon after, Gorino achieved the rank of 2nd Dan and continued to have success on the tournament circuit.
Master Gorino's love of Tae Kwon-Do had grown to the point where he felt compelled to open a school of his own. Maintaining his strong ties with Master Summers, Gorino opened the school as a "Robert Summers School of Tae Kwon-Do" After settling in the school for one year, he was told by Master Summers that it was time to take his 4th Dan test. When you achieve the rank of 4th Dan you then receive the title of Master. Master Gorino still loves to travel to tournaments with his students and occasionally participates in them. Yet his love for Tae Kwon-Do is evident by the fact that he teaches all of his students. As time passed on, Master Gorino achieved the rank of 5th Dan. Testing for the rank of 5th Dan is different than all the past tests he had to face. Master Gorino was now tested on how well his students trained, presented themselves, the way he taught his students and what his student's thought of him. Master Gorino keeps good relationships with all his students and is concerned about each and every one of them, making sure they are doing well in school and at home. Soon after achieving the rank of 5th Dan, Master Summers and Master Gorino decided to go ahead and change the school's name over to Master Gorino's Pil-Sung Tae Kwon-Do. Even though the name changed, the school was still a part of the Robert Summers Association. The school continued to grow and Master Gorino thought it would be best for the school to relocate to a bigger and better facility that is the present location. Master Gorino has dedicated his life to Tae Kwon-Do to help better others through this Martial Art.
